Privacy Policy
Overview
BAR Line Lab does not require an account and has no Alternix cloud backend. Barcode values and design settings are processed on your Android device. Alternix does not receive the content of barcodes you create or scan.
Local history and settings
Created and successfully scanned barcode values, selected standards and design settings may be stored in a private local database so you can reopen and edit them. Language and theme choices are stored in app preferences. You can delete history entries in the app. Clearing app data or uninstalling BAR Line Lab removes this local data; the app disables Android backup for its own data.
Camera and barcode scanning
The app asks for camera permission only when you open the barcode scanner. Camera frames are analyzed on the device with the bundled Google ML Kit barcode recognition model. The app does not record video, take photos, upload camera frames, or store them. You can deny or revoke camera permission and continue using manual barcode creation.
Advertising and consent
BAR Line Lab uses Google Mobile Ads SDK (AdMob) for banner ads on several screens and offers a rewarded ad before PNG, SVG, PDF, EPS or TIFF export. Before any ad request, the app asks you to choose either 13–17 or 18+. It stores only that category on your device and does not ask for or store a birth date. Requests for the 13–17 category use Google's CHILD age treatment as a stricter privacy safeguard, disable personalized advertising and remarketing, prevent transmission of the Android advertising identifier (AAID), and limit ad content to rating G. UMP is told that the user is under the age of consent; the app does not show the standard UMP consent form or advertising privacy choices for this category. Requests for the 18+ category use UNSPECIFIED age treatment. UMP determines whether consent is required for the adult user based on the applicable region, and ads are requested only after UMP permits them. When required, Google's official advertising privacy options are available in Settings. Google and its advertising partners may process device or advertising identifiers for eligible adult requests, IP address, approximate location inferred from IP, app and device information, diagnostics, ad interactions and consent choices to deliver, limit, measure and protect advertising. Barcode values, label designs, camera frames and exported files are not sent to AdMob. The app does not use Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics.
Files, sharing, and images
JPEG export is available without watching an ad. Before PNG, SVG, PDF, EPS or TIFF export, the app offers an optional rewarded ad; if you decline it or no ad is available, no protected export is created and you can still use JPEG. When you choose an image for a price tag or a custom silhouette, Android grants access only to that selected file. The system file picker lets you choose the export destination. Sharing creates a temporary cache file and sends it only to the app or service you select. Alternix does not upload these files.
Permissions and network access
The app may request camera access and declares Internet and network-state access. The camera is used only for scanning when you request it. Internet access is used by AdMob and its consent flow, not to upload barcode values, price-tag designs, camera frames, or exports. The app does not request contacts, microphone, location, or broad storage access.
Libraries and service providers
ZXing generates barcodes; AndroidX and Jetpack Compose provide the interface; CameraX provides the camera preview; and the bundled Google ML Kit model recognizes barcodes. Camera frames and recognized barcode values are processed on the device and are not sent to Google. ML Kit may nevertheless send Google technical information—including device and app information, a per-installation identifier, performance metrics, API configuration, input and output sizes, feature versions, event types and error codes—for diagnostics and usage analytics. Google states that this information is encrypted in transit and is not shared with third parties. Google Mobile Ads SDK and Google User Messaging Platform communicate with Google for advertising and consent. The app does not use Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics. This website is hosted on GitHub Pages, whose infrastructure may process standard web request data under GitHub's own policy.
Retention, security, and children
Alternix does not keep a server-side copy of app data because the app has no Alternix account or backend. Local data remains until you delete it, clear the app data, or remove the app. Advertising providers retain data under their own policies and your consent choices. BAR Line Lab is intended for users aged 13 and over and is not directed to children under 13. Google states that data transmitted by the Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit using TLS. Review sensitive barcode content before sharing it.
Your choices
You can use manual input without camera access, revoke camera permission in Android settings, delete local history, change the stored age category, manage advertising consent when available, choose whether to watch a rewarded ad, use the free JPEG export, choose where files are saved and cancel sharing before selecting a recipient.
